To make accurate selection decisions in animal production it is necessary to follow how genes are inherited and expressed in the whole population for a period of time. This is done on computer and with the recent developments in biotechnology (like sequencing and genotyping) more data are available, which is an opportunity, but also a challenge. This needs some bioinformatics and biostatistics skills to handle, manipulate and analyze these data.
