Ivomerere is a Kinyarwanda name referred to as self-irrigate in English. Due to the fact that livelihood of Rwandan communities depend on agriculture, Ivomerere system has been developed to solve drought and weather patterns in which farmers will be able to cultivate in any seasonal agriculture. According to Rwanda development Board, in 2016; agriculture sector employed 86% of Rwandans, provided 90% of nation food need and generated more than 70% of the country’s export revenues. It is in that regard, we aim at improving the existing way of irrigating food production by providing reliable and efficient means of irrigation. It will offer farmers in Rwanda with efficient and affordable means of irrigation in all seasons. Farmers will manage and control irrigation systems automatically.
Apart from automation, famers will save time and energy that is currently spent in fetching water and manually irrigating one plant to another. The system will be able to manage water usage, and gather data related to climate conditions, land/soils (temperature, precipitation, soil humidity); hence food production will highly be improved.
