Accelerating a National Economy through Cloud Computing Timothy Chou Stanford University

Much of the world is moving to a service economy. It already is a huge part of the US economy and even China’s services economy is approaching 45% of GDP. So what so what does this mean? and what role does cloud computing play? This talk will give you a framework to understand cloud computing in a way you can explain to non-technical colleagues, discuss the fundamental economics underlying cloud computing, and finally discuss some of the new opportunities to accelerate a nation’s economy through this technology.

Biography: Timothy Chou has been a leader in bringing enterprises to the cloud since 1999, when he returned to Oracle to work for Larry Ellison as the President of Oracle On Demand. Since leaving Oracle he returned to Stanford University and launched CS309A, the first course on cloud computing. He also teaches a cloud computing class at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Based on his lectures he authored Cloud: Seven Clear Business Models. It is his second book and follows the very successful The End of Software. Not content to merely talk about the subject, he serves as a consultant for some large companies and has invested in a select group of new companies.
