kLab will be hosting Mikul Shah, CEO and founder of the award winning site Eat Out Kenya's largest online restaurant guide and booking engine. A self labelled tech enthusiast, Mikul is a former TEDxNairobi speaker and one of the founding investors in 88MPH, East Africa's largest co-working space. He was awarded the first runner up at CIO 100 East Africa and holds board positions in several innovative companies in Kenya.
Since launch in 2010, Eat Out has become a household name among consumers and the hospitality industry in Kenya. The company has scooped a number of awards including the prestigious Kenya Tourism Award, Vision 2030 ICT Innovation for Tourism and US$50,000 Tandaa World Bank Content Grant. Eat Out has also partnered with the likes of Air Kenya, Business Daily, Capital FM, Google, Heineken, MasterCard, Safaricom & Zuku.
The open discussion will focus on Tech innovation in East Africa and lessons learned in the development of Eat Out Kenya from a playful idea to a successful venture that saw a seed investment from Dutch VC Africa Media Venture Fund at US$500,000 valuation. Eat Out aims to launch their Rwanda platform towards the end of 2013 and is currently seeking partners and country lead in Kigali.
