TorQue voted best startup of Rwanda in the Seedstars World Competition
TorQue has won the regional round of Seedstars World, a global startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes in 2014.
Around 13 startups competed during the regional event. The top 3 winning startups comprised 1st place winner TorQue, an online management system for wholesale distributors, 2nd place winner African Renweable Energy, which provided mobile renewable energy solutions, and Rusumo Data, which provides farmers with information needed to optimize their harvest. Due to their regional win, TorQue will be going to Geneva in February, as part of the Seedstars World Final Event. Jean Niyotwagira, TorQue’s Founder stated: “We worked very hard for this win and to prove our worth. The competition was very tough, and we are honoured to go to Geneva to represent Rwanda.”
2013’s Seedstars Kigali winner Foyo was represented by its founder and CEO Aphrodice Mutangana was also at the event, stating that that: “before being crowned as Regional Winner by Seedstars World in Kigali, many people either misunderstood what FOYO m-health was about or simply ignored its existence. However, the application has now received exposure not only in Rwanda but also internationally.”
Kaymu Rwanda’s Yan Kwizera, Angel Bisamaza from Tigo and the upcoming Think Accelerator, and Seedstars World Scout Julien Berthomier rounded out the jury.
The next stop of the tour is the Seedstars Kampala on the 27th of June. It continues on to Nairobi, Cape Town, Bangalore, Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Manila, Jakarta, Singapore, Shanghai, Sydney, Mexico City, Bogotá, Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires, and Sao Paulo.
