You are invited to an open "Tech Talk by Russell McMahon" at kLab on Wednesday 23rd July 2014 at 6pm.

Russell is an exciting person to meet especially given his views on innovation and emerging economies and his past one month experience at University of Rwanda, Nyagatare Campus.

Russ McMahon has been teaching IT related subject matter for more than 30 years. He has been teaching full-time at the University of Cincinnati for 15 years and helped create the Information Technology Bachelor of Science degree which started in 2004 and is one of two IT programs in Ohio that is ABET accredited.

He teaches computer programming, database administration, business intelligence, and IT security. He is an IT user group evangelist and helped create TechLife Cincinnati which is for those who have an interest in what is going on in the local IT scene.

He enjoys studying the history of science and technology and considers himself to be a lifelong learner. Prior to coming to UC he worked at several area high schools, as well as a couple of local companies. He is married and has 3 grown children. His wife is also a teacher. Besides his teaching, he serves as a track and field official at area high school and college track meets and enjoys competing in road races from 5k’s to marathons. He was a competitor in the 2013 Boston Marathon (42 km), but was unable to finish the race and ran the 2014 Boston Marathon in 4:04.

He earned his bachelors in physics and his master’s in education at UC. Upon graduating from UC with his bachelors, he joined the Peace Corps and taught math and physics in a small village school in Zaire (now the DRC). This is his first trip back to Africa since leaving in 1978.
